Emile Guevara - Coach
A nurse by day, Coach Emile found himself looking for a new kind of fitness experience when he stumbled on to CrossFit. Not only did CrossFit help Coach Emile finally see results from all of his hard work, it challenged him mentally, helping push him to his limits and reach new heights he didn't think were possible.

"In 2014, I found myself out of shape despite playing several intramural sports (volleyball, flag football, ping-pong, and basketball) in college. Post-grad life agreed with my belly but not so much with my overall health and fitness. I was going to a standard gym on a regular basis but I was not getting the results I wanted. When I was sent to work in Pennsylvania early 2014, there were no globo-gyms. My sister mentioned how much I would enjoy CrossFit some time ago but I never really took her seriously. Without any other options, I decided to join the local box. I still remember the first day I walked into class; I thought I'd be able to deal with the workout with relative ease but I was so, so, SO wrong. I was DESTROYED after just 2 movements of box jumps and deadlifts. Needless to say, I went back for 7 days straight of WODs and signed up for the 3 months I had left on my stay in the area.
CrossFit appealed to me because of the nature of the sport. CrossFit showed me the value in persevering and the error in specializing. Becoming a well-rounded athlete meant tackling your weaknesses and developing new skills on a regular basis. Simply put, you're never really as good as you think and this lit a fire within me. While the workouts were fun, challenging, and pushed you towards the ends of your mental and physical abilities, it's the community and the box family that kept me coming back. The other athletes who sweat, bleed, and suffer along with you on the workouts are the ones who inspire me to work as hard as I do.
So when it came time for me to come back to NJ around July 2014, I needed to find a gym that put the community above everything else. Fast forward several months working out regularly at the TreeHouse and Jason, Don, and Kristin asked if I wanted to participate in the leadership program. It would give me a chance to become part of our already amazing coaching staff and learning from what I considered to be some of the most passionate and driven people, thus it was a no-brainer. Getting my CF L1 Trainer designation was easily the best thing I have ever done for myself. We even got a special visit from The Coach himself, Greg Glassman, inventor of CrossFit! Now armed with so much knowledge and confidence, I realize that I still have so much more to learn but I hope to uphold the characteristics that make our box the place to be; particularly our commitment to our athletes and our community. Who knows, as I get better and become more and more knowledgeable, maybe I'll even get my CF L2 Trainer designation and bring more honor to our box family!"
